Dancers Perform in Fundraiser for Pediatric Cancer Awareness

Dancers Perform in Fundraiser for Pediatric Cancer Awareness (April 15, 2012)
Photo: Front Row: Kyla Hawks, Lauren Schuefler, Paige Wade. Second Row: Jill Wiley, Tara Wade, Laken Kimball. Back Row: Tara Patterson, Natasha Gurley, Haley Horning, Alex Kimball, and Queen Barnes.
 – Several dancers from Michelle’s Encore Dance Studio participated in  the Dancers for Pediatric Cancer fundraiser at Salina South on Sunday. The event raised over $1,800 for the Love, Chloe Foundation. Funds from this event will go towards purchasing Monkey Kits for children battling cancer or brain tumors.

“Our goal was to collect enough money for one monkey kit, which is $75,” says Michelle Crittenden, owner/instructor of Michelle’s Encore Dance Studio. “Thanks to our amazing families, and a big donation, we were able to donate $186, almost enough for three monkey kits! I’m just thankful for the positive response from our families.”

Monkey In My Chair is a program designed for children that are missing school because of cancer. The kits include a stuffed monkey with a backpack, a book, and other items that can be utilized by the child and their classmates. All kits are sent out, at no cost, to the families or hospitals.

“When a child is away from school for treatments, the monkey will sit in their chair at school, helping the class stay connected with the child that is away. The monkey then travels to the hospital to share the week’s worth of activities or notes with the child,” explains Crittenden.
To read more about the program visit www.monkeyinmychair.org.

The Love Chloe Foundation was founded in Salina, KS, by the friends and family of Chloe Watson Feyerherm. Chloe touched the lives of many during her seven years, especially during her year long battle with cancer. Through this foundation, Chloe's story can continue to touch the lives of others and we can continue Chloe's fight against brain tumors.

Jan. Feb 2012 Updates

A Note From Michelle’s Encore Dance Studio
January is over and we are rolling right into February classes. I just wanted to send a quick list of updates, upcoming events, reminders! If you ever need anything, please email, call, or find me on Facebook. I’m always open to your ideas and feedback. Without happy dance families- I would no be in business! :) Thank you for everything that you do! - Michelle

February invoices are in your tuition envelope (in the black box.) Your balance this month includes the recital fee. If your dancer will NOT be participating in the recital, please let me know and I’ll remove that fee. (See below for recital fee details.) I have a handful of accounts that are past due, and some attendance has been hit and miss. Please let me know if your dancer needs to drop a class, make adjustments to classes, or schedule make up classes. Due to class size min./max. you will be charged for that space until you inform us that you are dropping the class. Thanks!
Weather Reminder: When USD 353 cancels classes due to inclement weather- Michelle’s Encore Dance Studio will also cancel classes. Always use your best judgement for the safety of your family! Makeup Classes: You may attend a different class in your age group to make up for snow days, sick days, or any absence!
** Annual Recital: Saturday, May 5, 2012.**
I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience with the date change of the recital.
I, unknowingly, set the date the same day as a choir/music festival, a conflict with some of our performers. The New Date: May 5, will alter the ending date of our spring session. You will get a bonus week of classes!! :) We will conclude the spring session with the recital on May 5. (More about recital below.)
Recital Fee: $15 Recital fee is due by Feb. 15 for each dancers participating in the Spring Recital. The recital fee is non-refundable. This fee covers the cost of the auditorium, programs, and other expenses that go along with holding the show. Each performer will receive a recital t-shirt, their name on the t-shirt, and personal CD with all of the recital music on it so they can practice at home! If you have questions or concerns- don’t hesitate to contact me! :)

2012 ANNUAL SPRING RECITAL
Parent Volunteers
We want to make the recital experience for our dancers of all ages as positive, safe, and enjoyable as possible. In order to do this, we need parent helpers to volunteer backstage in assisting with bathroom visits, keeping the class together, and getting the dancers ready when it is their turn to perform.  We will post a sign up sheet for volunteering in April.
Schedule of Events: Saturday, May 5th
10:00 AM- Noon - Dress Rehearsal- (Old Junior High Auditorium 311 N. A Street)
Dancers are dismissed after their class is done on stage.
First and only practice on the stage to find their “spot”
Practice the final bow
Practice enter and exit stage
Practice walking from dressing room to stage and back (with volunteer parents)
5:30- Dancer’s Report to Dressing Room
Coloring books and crayons provided! Dancers can practice, color, change, relax!
6:00 PM- Recital Begins
I believe in keeping things SHORT and SWEET! :)
The show will be a little less than an hour. Dancers will remain in the dressing room through the recital and will come out at the end for a final bow. We will have a sign up sheet for parents to volunteer to work backstage to help keep an eye on the dancers, and to help with any costume changes, or potty breaks. After the final bow we will dismiss the younger dancers to their parents, and we will enjoy refreshments with everyone in the hallway of the school.
What Do They Wear For Recital?
2012 is a non-costume recital year. Young dancers 9 and under wear wear their favorite dance wear- (leotard, tights, skirt, dance shoes); Ages 9 and up will wear similar dance wear as their classmates to go along with their dance number. We will discuss this in February.
